[Story Scrapped]

Before we begin, please note that Rift is a game I'm working on, it is still in the planning stages so there is currently no record of it as of yet.

Before Rift takes place as stated, before Rift takes place. As such many things later included in Rift will be in the story.

So let's begin.

Before Rift:

Prologue:

It hasn't been long since the last, the war to end all wars, the fifth and once again final World War. How long will peace last? How long before a mans greed puts mankind into war once again? All it takes is a conflict or an allience. Five wars there have been, five global wars each containing disaster but ultimately leading progress. The first came from a dispute, when a man was killed and alliences were put together and clashed. The second came from a country blamed for the first war, and a greedy man who wanted the world. The third came at a time of peace, all the most powerful nations at war, all who stood between their empires devistated. Finally brought to peace when all countries agreed to disarm and have an equal share in a world army, dedicated to protecting all countries but ultimately controlled by the bigger nations...Which led the fourth war, small nations failed to disarm, planted spies within the ranks of the nations army serving only to kill to weaken the bigger nations. The nations all rearmed, war broke out across the earth and devistation ensued. Finally it ended, those troublemaking nations disarmed but trechery was afoot. One of the largest nations, fearing more espionage, killed all outsiders from the worlds army, only thier country would do in their new army. And so empires began building once again, nations at war once again, the death the fire and the devistion of man. With no unified army to protect them the bigger nations took from their neighbours, stemming empires, but it was not enough to defeat the isolated large continent with their unified power. So they progressed, developed the walker mechs. Machines that stood on two legs and were piled with weapons, capable of easily destroying a tank and walking any ground that didn't sink. And so the war raged, all nations against each other. The fifth world war, the war to end all wars. The other continent developed the walkers too and all nations finally became capable of constructing them.
For 10 years the war raged, empires built up high and even the lone continent fell. Until just a few rulers remained. Finally, after 10 years of fighting, treaties were made, the four empires that were now the world allying and the war was over...Suppossedly all wars were over.
Earth was at peace at long last, it took us until the year 4624 but we truly believed earth would retain its peace forever. No one could have predicted their arrival and for these many years, it never did...

Chapter 1: Departure
As with all adults, on Shinto Alkatines 21st birthday he was issued a job based on the skills he had presented in his childhood years. From the end of the last war it had become a rule that everyone who reaches the age of adulthood, currently dubbed 21, would work for the good of the country they resided. Unluckily for Shinto, unlike others who were made to be builders, firefighters, games designers or other similar jobs, he showed enough skill to be a soldier for his countrys empire. The British Empire, one of the four ruling empires of the world, back in the time of the wars Britiain was the first to develop the walker mechs, not only did that give it some power over the isolated continent but also allowed to to build an empire of it's own from it's nabouring countries. When the fifth war first broke out, the two islands of britain merged, five nations becoming one. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. These names now known only as the past of Britain the great.
It's not all bad luck though, Shinto had formiddable skills in many things which is what made him be considered for the army in the first place, on his 21st birthday Shinto was to be shipped out to be a Walker Pilot, a great honour but also a great risk. Walkers were dangerous, some of the empires smaller empirees despise the Walkers for the devistation they once caused, some even trying to destroy Walkers as they would make their rounds. Still, it was peaceful enough for Walkers, they had little to do, just some rabble clean up and that was that, easy work.
Now you might be wondering why pick the highly skilled to pilot something that doesn't really get used, doesn't make much sense to waste those skills in a do nothing vocation. But that's not the case, Walkers are complex machines that take quite some skill to use, the unskilled would probably end up self-destructing the mech or firing on civilians by accident. And what I there was another war? It'd be too late to try to find Walker Pilots while their empire is being attacked, the solution was to take the highly skilled and put them in Walkers as a security measure.
Believe it or not Shinto was actually very happy to recieve his assigned job, he had a fascination with Mech Walkers, he had many pictures of them, moddles, toys, etc. Shinto wasn't the only person in his country that had grown up with Mech Walkes on the mind, most of the kids he'd played with as a child wanted to be a Walker Pilot, it was the best job to have. Mech were advertised everywhere, infact they were just about the only thing advertised anymore. Since everyone was put into skill based work, most fast food companies and fizzy drink sellers shut down, they just weren't given the staff.
When Shinto heard the news of his job he rushed upstairs to pack his things, he had to make sure he was ready when they came to get him. He took a large suitcase and began throwing his things into it left and right. But then it began to dawn on him, he had lived with his parents all his life, could he really part with them now? Ofcourse he could, it was the oppertunity of a life time, but that didn't mean he wouldn't be sad to go. After living all your life under the care of others it was always hard...Especially if you weren't going to see them again.
The thought stopped Shinto's frantic packing, he remembered when his brother had left to join the army of Britain. The guy had been crying the whole day up until they came to escort him, he'd forgotten to pack anything which was why he had left with nothing, or so Shinto thought. And with that thought came a knock on the door, Shinto ignored it a moment, taking hold of the family picture he had in his room. It had all four of them, his brother, his mother, his father and himself, smiling happily when Shinto was little. It had been taken days before his brothers leave, no one had expected him to join the aries ranks, they had all expected him to be given a job in a grocery store or something.
"Shinto Alkatine." Came an unfamiliar voice. "Shinto Alkatine."
Shinto looked towards the door of his room, placed the picture down on the side and stepped out onto the landing. There was a strange man there, looking up the stairs from the hallway. "Shinto Alkatine?" The man seemingly asked up the stairs. It was clearly addressed to Shinto and it was such a cnfident question that Shinto thought the man was naming him rather then asking his name. "Uh...Yes." Shinto said back to the man.
"Shinto Alkatine, you have been assigned to the Guardian Walker Squadren of Alpha 6. I am here to escort you to your new residence within the Squadren, you need not take anything with you as in your new life everything will be supplied. Come with me."
So the man was here to take him to his assigned job, well that figured, Shinto knew all the people that usually came round the house. But what was this about 'need not take anything with you'? Shinto had a suitcase of things he had wanted to take with him, he just had to put the picture in and he'd be done.
"Ok, I just need to get my-" Shinto started. But before he could finish his sentence the man repeated.
"You need not take anything with you."
Shinto hadn't forgotten everything like his brother had done, he'd packed his suitcase, all he need to do is grab it and he could go with all his memories safely with him. "But I-"
"We must go immediatly." The man commanded, it sounded like he'd take Shinto with him by force if need be. Had it been that way with his brother? Had they rufused him any memories.
If Shinto kicked up a fuss then that would just ruin his chances and probably get him thrown into a dead end job. He had to do as he was told, he'd just use last words as a way of remembering. So he made his way downstairs to the man.
"I'll just say goodbye to-" Again the man cut off Shinto mid-sentence.
"We leave now!" He demanded, it seemed like this guy had done this a million times before, already expecting what problems he might encounter and heartless to those he was to transport. Shinto had to believe it was through experience, what kind of person would shut his heart out without it being part of his job. Shinto had never met such a person and was hopeful he never would again.
So they left, without a goodbye or any memory of which to see. He was to have a new life, a new family. His old one was treated a just a fading dream.

Prologue written...Might need to alter it in due time but for now it seems fine. hopefully it tells you all you need to know for Chapter 1 to get started.

The storys title is based on a game idea I came up with with the name Rift, however I've found out there is a game soon to be released that will be called Rift. To prevent confusion I'm going to change the name of the game so that means the name of the story will also have to change...Eiother that or I'll just scrap the story and post up a different storyline I'm working on.

Yep, gonna scrap it. Was coming up with it on the spot anyway. I'm gonna try another story that I've already been working on so I atleast have a basis to start this next one.
